"INTEX EXPERIENCE" by coryschulthies

I feel the intex project was very worth while. While difficult if gave us experience that we would have not been able to get through a simple paper or homework assignment. We learned how to schedule our time wisely, pacing our work so we didn't become burnt out. I feel this project gave me a level of confidence with regards to preparing a proposal, that I didn't have before. Working with our group we gelled very well early on so we were able to accomplish a lot of good work early on, before we were all tired at the end of the week. The emails for the most part were fun.

Demo of windows 7... whats coming after vista

I found this little video clip of a Microsoft developer demoing Minwin (virtulisation software), and the developer then presents an early build of windows 7 to illustrate how unbloated it will be.

What helped most to study for the 401 midterm

I took the 401 exam on Thursday, and Feel that i did very well. i was evaluating what helped most to study for the exam and decide that it was the TA review. the reason why the ta review worked out so well, is the level of involvement of students in the review. it was not simply the TA lecturing, but rather students participating and helping each other. I don't mean to discount the efforts of the TA, he is awesome and helped a lot, but rather to point out the importance of taking the wheel so to speak with our education.

Starting to get the big picture

I have to say I'm starting to see the big picture in 401. When we started with all the recent diagrams, I didn't really get how important and interlinking they were, but they really give a great picture of a system as a whole better than one individual diagram ever could. Everything depends on everything else. I think I may not sell back the book to 401, not because I enjoy reading it (i don't) but its a great reference.

Distraction in class and a big part of its cause

I love my laptop, I just upgraded from my old 1977 model laptop to a screaming fast (for a laptop) core 2 do 2.4 ghz 800 mhz fsb. I love it. The only problem is that i may love it a bit too much for my own good. I remember when kids would get into trouble for bringing toys to school. The laptop is my toy, and i just cant seem to leave it alone. I have been thinking lately that i need to just put it away or not get it out unless I really need it for class the only problem with that is there is no promise of getting a Ip address so I can get online if I don't get it right when class starts.

cat juggling

This last week I have been thinking a lot about two things. One of them is what Dr. Albrecht told us about juggling glass balls and rubber balls. The other is what a speaker in the ebusiness lecture series (from zonder.com) said a few weeks ago about juggling cats. This last week has been really rough, and has seemed like rather than juggling glass and rubber balls like in dr albrechts analogy, we have been juggling cats.

Milestone 1

Doing milestone 1 has helped me to better understand the information from the book. I mean its one thing to read about project planning in a very very very dry textbook, and to actually plan a project. I do feel like the final product would have been better if our group not had so much home work in other classes and another project for 402 due the same day. Didn't get a lot of sleep this last week with everything going on (not a good think when you commute from Bountiful every day, a lot of close calls).

A short rant: too many web pages

I really don't know why the isys program is so fragmented with regards to web pages. I'm not trying to criticize the pages them selves, but rather the number of sites. we have isysguy isyscore.byu.edu/drupal, a separate 403 page, island and lets not forget blackboard. Am I missing any? There are so may that I really don't know if I am missing any.

dejavu 401 and supply chain management management core

This week as we have been studying project planning I have been having flashbacks to the supply chain management class from the management core (i took it before I know I wanted to do isys). it has been nice to feel like I already have a handle on a topic before we discuss it in class. But It would be good for those who didn't take the management core already, that they should really pay attention, because this isn't going to go away. Its important enough to study in two classes, and from what I hear its what many of us will be doing upon graduation, or slightly there after.

Working with the Group

So this week we had our first experiences really working with our group. I found these activities comforting, in that, My group seemed to gel well. I know that they say we are all probably in the honeymoon period right now, but it was good to know that we all were all willing to put forth our best efforts, and we were able to get good results as a team.

Now what... Its kind of a strange feeling knowing that past experience has shown that the group will start to have problems. It is almost like a ominous cloud hanging in the distance. I hope that we can all whether the storm.
